High Performance Custom ICF Garage

Insulated Garage - Hingham, MA

The Goals and Concerns:
Our client was searching for a better way to design and build a garage to store his sport cars
where he could also service them in a climate controlled space. The goal was to build a
structure that would also act as a retaining wall as it was being built into a hillside while
addressing the typical condensation problems with regular concrete or steel garages. Due to
the climate of the location, we had several challenges; high winds, harsh coastal weather
conditions, and a high ground water table.

The Solution:
Building with insulated concrete forms up to the roof sills was an obvious choice as it would
address all the goals the client had. For this high performance custom ICF garage, Logix Brands
ICF was selected. To address the high ground water issues on the site, we also elected to use
FabForm Industries FastFoot Footing System to ensure the concrete in the footing never was
exposed to the water while also installing a french drain system around the footing. A peel and
stick membrane was added to the exterior garage walls to ensure the Logix ICF foundation was
waterproofed. Once the custom ICF garage was completed it was a fully insulated structure
exceeding R-25 with no thermal bridging, had a radiant heated insulated concrete slab, and is a
climate controlled storage.
